Hm... I wonder about frozen organic soybeans. Interesting to see pineapple so low on the list, too. Oh who am I kidding, I'm doing well when I eat vegetables at all, pesticides or no!

Julie Bellian has asked me to pass this info along:

"I think the social and eating parts of Kale Force are good, and it's true you probably could have left everyone talking informally and eating for longer. It's an especially good way for newer people to get connected and it is an entirely different group from all other farm/food groups I hang around.

Then the go-around was good -we get to hear who everyone is. I'm sure people will be getting together outside the group as a result.

I think this is good. As spring & summer approach we could move outside, or even meet at people's gardens for an hour of collective work and then eating. Long summer evenings would allow this, but those of us who don't want to 'go to town' on those perfect gardening (and farming!) evenings could still get some work done, and help others in rotation. It would be pleasant and productive -and we could also learn each other's methods.

Car pooling would be a must. Then everyone will go home at a decent hour (Unlike Val & I last night!)

I volunteer my place - and I also suggest Patches NIHM because I already suggested we visit in a group. Individual visits to farm do take a lot of time away from the farmer's day -so a group 'tour' is better."

I have just gotten hold of a book called "Small-Scale Grain Raising" by Gene Logsdon, if anyone wants to borrow it. You can get in touch with me at Kingfisher Books (under the bowling alley).

hi-
a few things: Lyn Adamson said that she is looking for someone to take over the organization of the local 50-mile (100 mile?) challenge and that there is talk of making it a sunshine coast-wide (long?) phenomenon.
Here's a good link for a peek at what is going on in the US on this issue: Locavore Nation:
http://splendidtable.publicradio.org/locavore_nation/

and a NEW very good episode of C-Realm podcast (#77) on agriculture -- some great new ideas, including the idea of....people getting together and buying land to be reserved for alternative farming!! see: http://c-realmpodcast.podOmatic.com/rss2.xml

Wonderful! I look forward to brainstorming seed balls with you. And thank you for talking about my site! I might be interested in doing a cooking workshop, it would be fun to do! I just need to get over that whole 'public shyness' thing. :P

Blessings,
